Medicine Lake: The End of the Build

Every custom home tells a story and the closing chapter is both satisfying and a little sad! Finishing a project like this beautiful Medicine Lake dream home gives us the opportunity to reflect on the building journey and all that went into making this project a reality.

From Beginning to End

The original concept for this home was to capture a modern style that fit the homeowners’ unique needs while prioritizing lake views. The building process took eighteen months and included a lot of unexpected developments (like almost doubling our original square footage) but was a ton of fun and well worth it for the final result!

This project was a fun collaboration between the architect, the homeowner, and us. We loved strengthening those relationships and executing this custom dream together! A special project like this one really serves to bring people from the industry together, which helps reinforce and grow each of our areas of expertise!

Praise for the Finished Project

Building custom homes like this is essentially a collaboration of experts, and it's a great gift to be able to reflect on the process together. Chase Hicks of Concrete Science (who completed the flooring) especially loved having the homeowner be so close to the project as it helped bring about new ideas and greater craftsmanship. In his words: "It's kind of like a race with ups and downs; but when you finish, you can look back and appreciate the process and know you did your best to make sure the customer and client are happy with the work."

Matthew Byers of the PLAAD Architectural firm took a moment to really appreciate the light-filled central staircase: "We value true expertise and craftsmanship and it is evident that Bauer and the design team delivered on both of these aspects on a complex design."

David C. Zweber of David Charlez Designs, an architect who toured the home upon completion, had only good things to say: "My first impression of the home was stunning! There are so many things to love in this home, starting with the incredible covered front entry, to full glass views of the lake and the staircase! It truly is a work of art... Mark D. Williams has again knocked this home out of the park with the quality of construction and attention to detail. Our firm continually enjoys working with Mark. He helps us perfect our craft and we hope we are able to do the same for him."

Lindsay Craft, an Architectural Designer at David Charlez Designs, noticed some of the finer details of the home: "This home breathed light and uniqueness at every corner. A combination of slight angles draws your eye throughout the home and is even complimented by the custom metal staircase. I loved Mark's approach to the exterior materials used and the execution of the installation. Once again he truly does build a quality home with the client and the future of the home in mind."

Saying Goodbye

Eighteen months after the start date, it was time to hand this custom home over to the owners to enjoy for many, many years to come! The end of a project is always filled with celebration as we see the fruit of so many months of effort and creativity that make up the building experience. Taking in the final home and handing over the keys is both a moment of complete satisfaction and a little bit of sorrow!

We loved working on this stunning home and it's sad to see the end of such a fun building project. However, we look forward to taking all we learned and the relationships formed in the process onto the next home!
