Mysa Hus Wellness Studio: Designing A Luxury Home Gym

When most people think about a home gym, they picture a fitness journey unfolding on a  treadmill shoved into a spare bedroom or a dark basement with rubber flooring and fluorescent lights. Functional? Maybe. Inspiring? Not exactly.

But when it came to Mysa Hus, wellness was one of the foundational pillars of the entire home. So instead of designing “a gym,” the goal became creating a wellness experience. A place that supports performance, recovery, restoration, and longevity while still feeling connected to the architecture and philosophy of the home itself.

    The Wellness Studio

Because wellness was already central to the home’s design philosophy, the team started asking different questions: Where would someone actually want to work out? What kind of environment would make movement feel energizing instead of forced? How could the space encourage consistency and recovery instead of feeling disconnected from the rest of the home?

The result is a detached wellness studio positioned intentionally off the main home. The separation creates privacy, reduces noise, and establishes a beautiful courtyard-style layout that makes the entire property feel more like a retreat.

Natural light became a major priority as well. Vaulted ceilings, expansive windows, and a large multi-slide Pella Windows & Doors door system allow the studio to completely open to the outdoors, flooding the gym with fresh air and sunlight.

    Working With Beachside Custom Gyms

To bring the vision to life, we partnered with Beachside Custom Gyms founder Kali, whose background combines fitness facility operations, remodeling, construction, and interior design. That blend of expertise ended up being incredibly valuable throughout the project.

If all you do is design custom gyms, you're going to know the equipment in a way that fits the space. Kali approached the project as far more than simply selecting equipment. The focus was understanding how the wellness studio needed to function emotionally, aesthetically, technically, and physically, all while staying aligned with the Scandinavian-inspired philosophy behind Mysa Hus.

“What made Mysa Hus unique is that we were not designing the wellness space for one specific homeowner,” Kali explained. “We were designing for an avatar, and in many ways, that avatar was Mark.”

The space was designed for someone who values both performance and restoration: someone who trains hard but also values slowing down, recovering well, and creating space for mental clarity.

Designing a Wellness-First Luxury Home Gym

One of the biggest differences between a wellness-first gym and a traditional home gym is what happens behind the walls. According to Kali, wellness-focused design starts with insulation, ventilation, air quality, moisture management, lighting, and thoughtful material selection long before equipment ever arrives.

That philosophy heavily influenced every finish and detail inside the Mysa Hus wellness studio. The reclaimed Douglas fir walls and ceilings were intentionally left with a natural oil finish rather than stain, allowing the wood to age organically over time. The flooring, selected alongside OHO Interiors, combined cork and virgin rubber materials to support both durability and healthier indoor air quality.

The entire studio was designed to feel calm, grounded, and restorative rather than overstimulating. That philosophy extended into the fitness equipment choices. Instead of filling the space with workout machines that had large digital screens and subscription-based fitness apps, Kali intentionally selected more minimal, performance-driven equipment that aligned with the architecture of the home.

The strength training system came from Swedish fitness brand Eleiko, which paired naturally with the Scandinavian roots of Mysa Hus. Adjustable dumbbells from REP Fitness and PÉPIN added flexibility without sacrificing looks or durability.

The cardio machines and equipment was selected specifically because it avoided oversized digital displays, helping users disconnect instead of adding more stimulation into their day.

    Recovery and Performance

One of the defining features of the Mysa Hus wellness studio is that recovery was treated with the same level of importance as training itself. The studio includes a fully customized sauna designed alongside Symmetry Saunas, featuring thermally modified wood, a dramatic salt wall, basalt stones, and a fiber optic “starlight” ceiling inspired by Scandinavian sauna culture.

Outside, the space also includes a Chilly GOAT Cold Tubs & Plunges cold plunge, outdoor shower, and private courtyard that reinforce the studio’s overall focus on restoration and longevity.

    More Than a Home Gym

Every material, every piece of equipment, every lighting decision, and every architectural move was made to support how someone feels when they enter the space. Calm. Focused. Energized. Restored.

“I hope people walk in and immediately think, ‘I would be so pumped to work out in here,’” Kali said.

That’s the difference between adding exercise equipment to a room and designing a true luxury home gym experience. At Mysa Hus, wellness wasn’t treated like a trend. It became part of the architecture, the materials, the movement, and the everyday rhythm of the home itself.
