Why Mysa Hus Includes a Chilo Luxury Cold Plunge
Table of Contents
Luxury homes have long been designed around beautiful kitchens, spacious primary suites, and enviable outdoor living spaces. But what if the most important room in your home was built around helping you become healthier every single day? That's the question that shaped Mysa Hus.
From the beginning, Mysa Hus was designed as an exploration of what happens when you prioritize human performance, wellness, and longevity alongside timeless architecture. Every decision asked the same question: Will this improve the way people actually live? And that's exactly why partnering with Chilo made so much sense.
Shared Values, Better Design
Some partnerships happen because of business. Others happen because of shared philosophy. The collaboration with Chilo fell squarely into the second category.
I've been fascinated by thermal culture for years. I built a sauna in my own backyard, and it's become a regular part of my weekly routine. Once you experience what intentional recovery can do for your body and mind, it's difficult not to start imagining how those ideas belong inside the homes we build. When we began designing the wellness center for Mysa Hus, I knew we couldn't simply place a generic cold plunge on the patio and call it finished.
Chilo approaches craftsmanship the same way we do. Their cold plunges are meant to engineer an experience. Their attention to premium materials, detailing, and performance made them feel like a natural extension of everything we were already trying to accomplish at Mysa Hus.
The Wellness Center Wasn't Part of the Original Plan
Ironically, one of my favorite spaces in the entire project almost didn't exist. Late in the design process, my architectural designer Karl challenged the way we were thinking about the exercise room. Instead of attaching it to the main house or building a traditional pool cabana, he suggested creating an entirely separate wellness studio overlooking the pool.
That single conversation completely changed the project. Suddenly, the building became its own sanctuary. Large Pella bifold doors flood the space with natural light while creating a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. Being detached from the main home also creates complete acoustic separation, allowing early morning workouts or recovery sessions without disturbing anyone sleeping inside.
Once that vision came together, the Chilo Cold Plunge naturally became the centerpiece connecting the wellness studio to the saltwater pool. Instead of feeling like an accessory, it completes the experience.
Wellness Isn't Just for Elite Athletes
Cold plunges often get labeled as something only marathon runners or professional athletes use, but that's missing the point entirely. For most homeowners, the real value is in removing friction.
Time is our most valuable resource, and while driving across town to use a recovery facility sounds great in theory, life gets busy. When your recovery tools live just steps outside your back door, every excuse disappears. The easier healthy habits become, the more likely they are to stick. That's what thoughtful home design should accomplish.
More importantly, wellness features create experiences that traditional luxury spaces simply can't. A beautiful living room certainly looks impressive, but it's still a passive space. A thoughtfully designed wellness environment, on the other hand, actively helps you feel better, recover faster, manage stress, and build healthier routines.

Wellness Design Starts Long Before Construction
One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is treating wellness amenities like accessories that can simply be added later. That's rarely how exceptional design works.
A cold plunge isn't something you buy online and slide into an empty corner after the home is finished. Every movement through the space needs to be intentional. We carefully planned the transition from workout area to cold plunge to pool so every step feels natural. Clearances matter. Circulation matters.
Then there are the building science considerations many people never think about. Electrical capacity needs to be planned early. Dedicated GFCI circuits, structural support for thousands of pounds of water, drainage, filtration, and year-round Minnesota performance all need to be coordinated during design, not after drywall goes up.
When those conversations happen early, everything disappears into the architecture, and that's exactly how it should feel.
Why Chilo Stood Above the Rest
As builders, we spend years obsessing over material selections. Nothing disrupts a well designed luxury home faster than introducing products that feel temporary or out of place. That's one of the reasons Chilo immediately stood out.
Their systems are built using double-wall insulated stainless steel rather than inexpensive molded plastic. Just as importantly, the exterior can be customized with premium cladding that complements the architecture instead of competing with it.
At Mysa Hus, the cold plunge blends naturally into the home's organic palette of white oak and warm natural materials. It looks less like gym equipment and more like a handcrafted piece of furniture.
Behind that beautiful exterior is equally impressive engineering, including pool-grade dual-stage filtration, integrated ozone sanitation, and a powerful heating and cooling system that can be controlled directly from your phone. Performance and design don't have to compete. In fact, the best products excel at both.
Stop Treating Wellness Like an Afterthought
If there's one piece of advice I'd give anyone designing a custom home today, it's this: Stop putting your wellness spaces in the basement.
It's amazing how often homeowners invest extraordinary amounts into kitchens and primary bathrooms while relegating the spaces meant to improve their health into whatever square footage is left over. If fitness, recovery, and longevity truly matter to you, those spaces deserve the same architectural attention as every other room in your home.
Bring in natural light. Create connections to the outdoors. Think about how your family will actually move through the space every day. Most importantly, involve your architect, builder, and wellness partners from the very beginning. Once construction is underway, many of the best opportunities have already passed.
Building Homes That Help People Live Better
Mysa Hus represents where we're headed as a company. I've never been interested in building the same house over and over again. Custom building is a constant pursuit of curiosity: learning new systems, discovering better materials, and finding ways architecture can genuinely improve people's lives.
The Chilo Cold Plunge is one expression of that philosophy. It's proof that beautiful homes can also become places that restore, strengthen, and support the people living inside them.
Because at the end of the day, the best custom homes don't simply protect us from the weather. They help us become healthier versions of ourselves.
